That special time of year called fashion week is upon us.  A week filled with friends, new and old, conversations of creativity, future collaborations and so much more.  Fashion week does have a funny habit of falling during either the hottest or coldest times of year.

Staying warm and chic can be difficult.  A great statement coat, bag, sunglasses and pair of pants is the go to.  I love my new Veronica Beard coat which kept me toasty this weekend.  It has the perfect-layered look with two coats in one.  The interior leather moto actually zips out so the coat can be worn two ways.

My current obsession though is the Fendi monster collection.  I’m completely aware that it is outlandish, and not so classic, but that’s why I love it.  My very sweet husband bought me this bag for Christmas and I absolutely adore it.  It is a classic Fendi Peekaboo bag, but if you fold down one side you see the fun little exotic skin monster.  But be careful, if the monster isn’t well fed (much like me), he does bite.  Paired with a great trouser, and layers of jewelry, the look is complete.  I especially loved pairing this beautiful little enamel lips bracelet from Dara Senders.  It was the perfect finishing touch with my Valentine’s Day outfit this weekend.

Stay warm out there friends!

Well, hello fashion week, lovely to see you again!  It’s hard to believe just two days after returning from Burning Man, I’m throwing myself into Fashion Week.

I’ve spent the last week covered in dust and surrounded by beauty, outlandish expressions of identity and creativity.  The parallels of Fashion Week and Burning Man are many.  I find myself going back to Burning Man year after year to find inspiration and beauty.  The desert trek fills my heart with amazing art that people have spent their entire year building for no other reason than to share it with others, only to watch – no, celebrate – as they burn it and begin again.

Fashion Week is also about our seasonal sharing of beauty, self-expression and creativity.  I see clothing as the art we wear everyday and share with the world.  What you choose to wear says a lot about who you are and what you want to say.

With the warm weather and need to be reasonably comfortable all day, the start of this year’s New York Fashion Week called for a jumpsuit.  I’ll be honest, this jumpsuit feels like wearing PJs, which is one of the things I love most about it.  Hopefully it doesn’t look like PJs.  Top it off with a little rockstud heel and a great hat, and you’re all set and ready to conquer the week.

I’m excited to spend the next few posts sharing some of my favorite NYFW shows and moments with you.  Check back this coming Friday for my first show recap of the season.

NYFW Style Day 2

Emily_Kammeyer_is_seen_outside_the_Marissa_Webb_show_wearing_a..._News_Photo___Getty_Images-5

Welcome to day 2 of NYFW!  Otherwise known as the snow continued and so did the shows!  Now let’s be honest, fashion week is a blast but it’s not so nice on the feet.  This season I started getting sensible early.  And by sensible i mean a great sneaker.  I do still love my Isabel Marant wedge sneakers.  On top of that I figured it would be a day of freezing cold and questionable hair by EOD, so why not throw on a fabulous hat and make it a statement!  I’m totally obsessed with this Eugenia Kim hat, and dresses it up a bit by throwing my favorite E.Kammeyer Accessories birdcage veil underneath!

Being comfy and stylish is how I make sure I’ll be happy all day long.  Here are a few of my favorite fashion week necessities:

1. Jackery Portable Charger– total life saver when your phone dies and you don’t want to be tethered to an outlet

2. bareMinerals lip gloss– keeps your lips from drying out with the perfect pop of color.

3. Kind Bars– Simple, nutritious, and yummy!  Great fuel!

4. Christian Lacroix Notebook–  I always carry a notebook with me to sketch, take notes and keep inspiration.

So cheers to staying warm, dry, stylish and fully charged!

NYFW Fall 2015 Day 1

nyfw day 1 updated

Happy Fashion Week to all!  And to all a warm week!  It’s that time a year when the fashion crowd gets dressed up in their finest, craziest, most photo-worthy garb and hits the streets.  The major difference this season – the cold is no joke and I’ve been doing my best to bundle up yet still look chic.

This season is a little different as well for one other major reason.  This is the final season at Lincoln Center.  Now, I say this with mixed emotions.  Lincoln Center is beautiful and has a square just made for street-style peacocking.  But with so many designers choosing to show at Milk and Art Beam downtown as well as a multitude of other venues, it leaves those of us without drivers hauling ourselves all around town via subway, taxi, Uber and even CitiBike.  Oh yes, I’ve Citi Biked all the way from Columbus Circle to Milk Studios on 15th st. in heels, my friends.

Day 1 I decided to go for a quirky mix of color, texture and function.  I love a great top coat and this wardrobe staple has lasted me through a few seasons.  It also paired in a fun, slightly mix-and-match way with my floral Etoile Isabel Marant corduroy overalls.  Overalls have made a big come back this year, plus these beauties work double-duty and the bib buttons off.  Mixed with a great pair of menswear inspired shoes, a minimal chic bag and an armful of tassels, you’re ready to go!

NYFW Fall 14- How To Dress For The Cold

It’s one thing to dress for fashion week when its warm and giant snow banks aren’t an issue. It’s a whole other story when freezing cold temperatures are involved and the weather has held your closet full of Louboutins hostage! So what does that mean!? It’s time to break out the leather pants, chic sneakers (or for those back home in the midwest, tennis shoes, yes I said it), and fur, lots of fur!

Jacket: Christian Siriano (similar here) // Blazer: J.Crew // Shirt: Madewell // Pants: H&M // Shoes: UES (similar here) // Necklace: E.Kammeyer Accessories // Bracelets: E.Kammeyer Accessories, Tom Binns, Nike Fuel Band // Hat: Patricia Underwood // Sunglasses: Alexander Wang

Just a little added fun! The above look was featured on DailyCandy.com‘s NYFW Street Style page.

NYFW- Houghton Volume

Houghton, designed by Katharine Polk

There’s an excitement in the air as we wait with baited breath to see Katharine Polk’s Fall 14 collection. She has been named one of the top up-and-coming designers to watch this season, and we’re ready!

Katharine’s muse this season was icon Katharine Hepburn. I loved how she took the elegance and beauty of her super silver screen star and played it up with cinched in waists, oversized coats and serious glam. The palette was easy and effortless in shades of ivory, camel, black and charcoal. There was a sense of classic menswear translated into super chic womenswear. The voluminous sleeves, burnout fabrics, and shimmering metallic polka dots were lush and yummy.

To top it all off the models were rocking some fabulous custom fuzzy, bejeweled Birkenstocks. (note, I need a pair of those!)

The best way of describing Katharine’s collection this season, VOLUME.

Behind The Scenes Fun At New York Fashion Week

The shows, the parties, the fashion! Fashion week is one of my favorite times of the year. The best part may be the amazing people I meet and friends I get to reconnect with. Here’s a little peak into a fashion girls favorite holiday…

Fun at The Empire Hotel with House of Jeffers and DearAndi at the rewardStyle party.

Yummy cocktails at the RewardStyle party.

Drooling over fabulous shoes with one of my fave bloggers, New York Fashion Hunter

at the Schutz party.

Backstage at Christian Siriano’s show with Corri McFadden, founder of eDrop-Off

(and small world friend from Chicago).

NYFW party at Christian Siriano’s store with one of my favorite people, DearAndi.

Trying on some retro chic shades in front of Lincoln Center post show

with one of my favorite DC bloggers, District Sparkle.

Shoe off (You can’t go wrong with glitter sneakers, thanks Miu Miu.)

I do a love a good small world moment in New York. This may have

been my favorite of NYFW. As dismounting from my CitiBike (in

full fashion week getup), I ran into a long lost college friend on

his way to a show as well. I will say it again, I love CitiBike!

A little peak at one of my favorite looks from NYFW. What were your favorite

memories from NYFW?

New York Fashion Week Recap- The Accessories!

Shockingly, one of my favorite parts of fashion week is the accessories. Last season we saw a new crop of handbags popping up with fabulous innovative handles, see Milly. This season we are still seeing a similar handle design but in a brand new way!

Tanya Taylor showed us the bag we’ve all been wanting for the perfect Summer night out on the town!

If you are dying for it like I am you can pre-order at Moda Operandi.

If you know me, you know I love shoes (even with my insanely large shoe size, ie I fight men for shoes at

sample sales). Jen Kao hit the mark when it came to runway shoes this season. Absolutely loving the

simplicity of the leather platform mules and the super textural multi-color platform raffia mules.

Current season of Jen Kao.

I am such a sucker for a great statement necklace, and Tanya Taylor hit the mark by pairing the candy

colored jewels of Shourouk. The bold baubles were the PERFECT pairing for the fabulous pops

of color in Taylor’s collection.

Aurelio Costarella‘s collection of bridal and evening gowns were show stopping. But perfectly

perched on top was this beautiful encrusted birdcage veil. Demure yet chic and vintage.

Here’s a little taste of what I was accessorizing with this NYFW 🙂

Image #1 Coach handbag, E.Kammeyer Accessories tassel bracelets, Tom Binns safety pin cuff.

Image #2 vintage magazine purse.

Image #3- Miu Miu studded glitter high top sneakers

Lastly a little fun, check out the high tech accessories on two of the attendees at the Jen Kao show.

A little preview of what Google Glass could be used for…fashion may never be the same.

What were your favorite accessories on the runway this season? Check back this week for NYFW recap part 3!

New York Fashion Week Recap Part 1

The tents are no more and the leaves have begun to fall, but NYFW is still fresh in all of our minds. Running from show to show you could hear the chatter about everyones favorite trends. Here are a few of my favorite trends/looks from NYFW. What are your favorites? What will you be rocking Spring/Summer 2014?

Cropped Tops– Cropped tops were one of the major trends this season. Everything from boxy, to fitted and flouncy. Check out some of my favorite variations!

Trina Turk presentation- love the boxy silhouette and pop color.

Trina Turk presentation- Love the boxy yet fitted silhouette in this seasons popular stripe print.

Christian Siriano Runway- Absolutely in love with Christian’s color palette. Especially this yellow

cropped top with flowing high low statement overlay. Such movement and color, a serious must have!

Christian Siriano Runway- This cropped boxy jacket has everything, circle cut swingy sleeves, and just the right geometric print.

Deivie Presentation- Laser cut, pop color, script cropped top, YES PLEASE! The perfect little tee!

Jill Stuart- Super cropped with the perfect little flounce.

Chiffon– This beautiful fabric was seen floating under tunic layered ensembles and dancing down the runway. Here are a few of my favorite.

Tanya Taylor Runway- The prints and color at Tanya Taylor just put you in a happy place.

I loved the simple silhouette here, which was perfectly paired with this very Seurat inspired print and statement jewels.

Trina Turk Presentation- We saw this severely scooped neckline on a number of runways this season.

What I love about this perfect sheath is the simplicity and the fabulous line of color bone. Additionally,

love the use of chiffon in the see though cinched pants, so summer and chic.

Trina Turk Presentation- What more are you looking for in a chic beach coverup?

Ethereal, amazing print and color, need I say more?

Jen Kao- The Jen Kao show was one of the most beautiful I experienced this season.

This flowing, layered, perfection was just a little slice of heaven from the show

that made you feel like you might just be there.

Steven Khalil Runway (in conjunction with Fashion Palette)- Beaded, craping necklines and

just the right amount of skin. Steven Khalil nailed it for the perfect evening statement.

Tomorrow will be a recap of some of the must have accessories from NYFW Spring/Summer 14….because we just can’t get enough accessories 🙂
