Designer Spotlight: Colette Malouf

Colette Malouf is a household name in the hair accessories world.  She’s been in the business since 1987 and knows how to create one of a kind, beautiful hair accessories that bring your outfit game to a whole new level.  Well this Fall ’15 collection is no different.  What I’m truly loving is how she is bringing her jewelry and hair accessories into one world.  They play off each other in the perfect way.

Colette’s Fall ’15 collection finds influence in the duality of androgyny: how a woman explores her masculine side through her femininity.  “Steel Grace” encourages women to explore their power and express both their masculine and feminine sides.  Contrasting elements such as rigid and fluid, structured and random, industrial and artistic are seen in this collection.  I love and relate to this concept perfectly.  I often find myself pulling menswear styling into my wardrobe and love the play on male vs. female dressing.  Annie Hall and Chanel brought us effortless menswear in ways women truly related to.  Colette is bringing this concept to a new age.

Colette’s free form shapes and manipulation of metal are what created the most interest for me.  Her “Maneframe” square headbands are like nothing I’ve ever seen.  She effortlessly takes an item we think that we know and tweaks it perfectly.  Same goes for her Highline and Scribble jewelry collections.  Asymmetrical and fluid shapes can be found in the beautiful Highline collection.  I can vividly see in my mind the old train tracks along the Highline, now turned into beautiful flowers beds as the inspiration for the two-finger rings, hand chains, ear bars and more.

The Scribble collection is so quintessentially New York to me.  It immediately transports me to The MOMA.  It’s beautiful and modern and oh so NYC.

All of these beautiful pieces are works of art.  Meant to be worn for years and cherished.  Scroll below for your fall accessories shopping.

New York Fashion Week Recap- The Accessories!

Shockingly, one of my favorite parts of fashion week is the accessories. Last season we saw a new crop of handbags popping up with fabulous innovative handles, see Milly. This season we are still seeing a similar handle design but in a brand new way!

Tanya Taylor showed us the bag we’ve all been wanting for the perfect Summer night out on the town!

If you are dying for it like I am you can pre-order at Moda Operandi.

If you know me, you know I love shoes (even with my insanely large shoe size, ie I fight men for shoes at

sample sales). Jen Kao hit the mark when it came to runway shoes this season. Absolutely loving the

simplicity of the leather platform mules and the super textural multi-color platform raffia mules.

Current season of Jen Kao.

I am such a sucker for a great statement necklace, and Tanya Taylor hit the mark by pairing the candy

colored jewels of Shourouk. The bold baubles were the PERFECT pairing for the fabulous pops

of color in Taylor’s collection.

Aurelio Costarella‘s collection of bridal and evening gowns were show stopping. But perfectly

perched on top was this beautiful encrusted birdcage veil. Demure yet chic and vintage.

Here’s a little taste of what I was accessorizing with this NYFW 🙂

Lastly a little fun, check out the high tech accessories on two of the attendees at the Jen Kao show.

A little preview of what Google Glass could be used for…fashion may never be the same.

What were your favorite accessories on the runway this season? Check back this week for NYFW recap part 3!

I am always interested in how people find about fashion trends. I listen to Facebook, Twitter, numerous blogs, several publications I love and listen to my colleagues in the fashion industry. And one of the most exciting and fasted growing services is Pinterest. I have decided to try it as a way to curate and spread the types of fashion that excite and inspire me. I’ll be “pinning” hair accessories and other women’s fashion, and I hope you follow and repin me. I hope you find my sense of style engaging, helpful and inspire you to share your own sense of style.
