NYFW- Alice + Olivia Brings Fairy Tail Drama

DESIGNER: ALICE + OLIVIA BY STACEY BENDET

Welcome to the whimsical world of Alice + Olivia! Stacey Bendet out did herself this season! The visionary behind Alice + Olivia knows how to tell a story, and found the perfect space this season for an evening full of tales. The space is The McKittrick Hotel, home to the interactive Macbeth production, Sleep No More. Bendet was inspired by the illustrated pop-up books by Benjamin Lacombe. Bendet wrote her own fairy tale this season entitled, Enchanted: The Search for the Golden Monarch.

Each chapter was played out by the models as you walked from room to room. There even was a Rapunzel with her long winding braid and sleeping beauty in a plexi glass box. The clothes were dark and romantic with touches of fur, and amazing embellishments (check out the amazing completely embellished little mod number hanging in the phone booth in image six). The clothes exuded a Victorian era ora with high necks, lace yokes, and brocade galore. Yet perfectly off set with a very Seventies look with fur collars, draped front cardigan coats and thigh high boots, oh and the hair, THE HAIR! Voluminous, and oh so fabulous! It was the perfect icing on the cake!

NYFW- Kate Spade’s Haute Take Out

DESIGNER: KATE SPADE

This season was very much inspired by Deborah Lloyd’s travels to Asia, specifically Shanghai and Tokyo. She stayed true to the Kate Spade customer but with some fabulous details and silhouettes that had the crowd wanting more. There were monochromatic silhouettes, fully in red, bucket hats, to die for bags galore and more feathers and embellishment than can fit in my closet. Highlights I loved, were the take out container purse, jeweled cuffs peaking out from bracelet length sleeves, birdcage bag and the pajama style ensemble with the ostrich coat. Get your shopping lists together! Fall 14 is going to be a good one!

NYFW- Katie Gallagher, Sigerson Morrison & Desigual

DESIGNER: KATIE GALLAGHER

Goth meets tech at Katie Gallagher‘s Fall 14 runway show. Flickering candles in a once convent turned Highline Hotel, made for the perfect back drop for this moody collection. Slippery tech nylon, grey faux fur, seamed tights and wet hair were the main stays. Over sized droopy bows were the icing on the cake.

DESIGNER: SIGERSON MORRISON

Sigerson Morrison holds a special place in my shoe heart. Their shoes are creative and trendy every season with out being so overtly so that they are out of style the following. Fall 14 at Sigerson was just as on point. Calf hair in perfect repeat prints and maroon menswear inspired heels made me want to skip spring and go straight into fall!

DESIGNER: DESIGUAL

Fun and never stuffy, Spanish brand Desigual brings smiles to the runway. I don’t know if there was a show I attended where the models had more fun and showed off so much personality. Desigual is known for their bold fun prints, and sometimes quirky design. The show was completely in keeping with their brand, and additionally showed a few stretch pieces I would love for my Fall 14 wardrobe. The textured wool over coats and colorful graphic motifs on the below dresses and top were some of my favorites. Additionally what stole my heart were the cropped gloves with gold thumbs!

Till next time! xoxo Em

NYFW- Houghton Volume

Houghton, designed by Katharine Polk

There’s an excitement in the air as we wait with baited breath to see Katharine Polk’s Fall 14 collection. She has been named one of the top up-and-coming designers to watch this season, and we’re ready!

Katharine’s muse this season was icon Katharine Hepburn. I loved how she took the elegance and beauty of her super silver screen star and played it up with cinched in waists, oversized coats and serious glam. The palette was easy and effortless in shades of ivory, camel, black and charcoal. There was a sense of classic menswear translated into super chic womenswear. The voluminous sleeves, burnout fabrics, and shimmering metallic polka dots were lush and yummy.

To top it all off the models were rocking some fabulous custom fuzzy, bejeweled Birkenstocks. (note, I need a pair of those!)

The best way of describing Katharine’s collection this season, VOLUME.
