My Favorite Mules For Spring and Summer

My Favorite Mules For Spring and Summer

I’ve recently fallen in love with mules.  They’re classic, chic and super comfortable for this NYC gal who is always running around town.  I’m currently obsessed with this pair from Donald J. Pliner.  I love the suede body and textured leather chunky heel.

The weather in NYC has been completely unpredictable so I included my favorite leather moto from All Saints with the look (similar here).  I paired it with a cropped knit long-sleeve from Lululemon (similar here) and my new denim go to, The Levi’s 501s.  I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to finally put these jeans on my body, but I’m sold.  They’re so easy and comfortable.  For some added texture to the outfit I added one of my go to clutches from Olympia Le-Tan (similar here and here) and my always staple, E.Kammeyer Accessories tassel bracelet.

The Chic Upgrade For Your Spring Wardrobe

The Chic Upgrade For Your Spring Wardrobe

As much as we’ve enjoyed the chills of winter, we can all agree that we’re ready to shed those chunky sweaters, puffer coats and oversized scarfs for something with a bit breezier.  If you’ve ever taken a peak into my closet, you know there are a plethora of crisp white shirts. If I’m being completely honest, I have a bit of an obsession.  They are my wardrobe staple go-to and the perfect tool for a spring wardrobe update.

I recently discovered this one from Loeil while perusing for a few new Spring essentials.  I wasn’t quite sure how the sizing would work when I ordered it as its a one size fits all, which in my experience works for knit tops but not wovens.  I was pleasantly surprised to find it fit me perfectly.  I’m 6 feet tall and it fits as a tailored shirt.  On someone a bit shorter than me it would fall a little lower and the shoulders might be a littler easier.  Here are a few of my favorite crisp white shirts to shop for Spring:

I styled my crisp white shirt with this studded Swagger bag from Coach and updated hoop earrings from Jennifer Fisher.  I plan to rock this mini bag all summer long at concerts.  I love the size and the detachable cross body strap to allow for dancing all night long.

How will you update your Spring wardrobe this season?

How To Upgrade Your Wardrobe This Spring

The Accessories Gal Closet

My husband and I recently purchased our first home in Downtown Brooklyn.  There’s so much to do, decorate and design to add our mark on our new home.  The first design tasks we tackled were  the closets.  We lived for years in Union Square in a “quaint” one bedroom, as we liked to call it, and my closet was as many friends lovingly referred to it, a game of Tetris.  Shoe boxes were stacked 4 deep, with polaroids of what was in them taped to the outside (a nice little trick for those space savers among us).  Clothes were so jam packed I completely forgot half of what I owned.  Moving in all honesty, re-introduced me to the half of my wardrobe that had been buried for years.

To create the closets of our dreams we hired California Closets.  I was super impressed with the details involved in the design.  They measured the height of my heels to decide how tall the shelves should be, counted the number of shoes I had, asked me how I like to organize my denim and how many long gowns I have.  What we created was a space that  amazes me every morning as I  walk into to get dressed.

When designing a new closet, here are a few tips and tricks I highly recommend:

  1. Streamline hangers.  Throw away all of those dry cleaner or wooden hangers and purchase velvet hangers like these to keep your clothes compact and in pristine condition.
  2. Organize jewelry in trays.  We built drawers underneath the vanity in my closet with soft-close drawers, organized with removable jewelry trays.  Keeping jewelry organized in flat trays makes getting dressed so much easier because you see the entire lay of the land.
  3. To maximize space on shoe shelves, places shoes heel to toe.
  4. Organize your purses on shelves by type of bag (clutches, top handle, oversized, etc.).  Additionally, put the dust bags inside of each bag as filler.  It’s much easier to see all of the bags you own and to help them keep their shape.
  5. Lastly, give up fast fashion.  Invest in pieces that will last for years to come and you won’t have to throw away because they just fall apart.

Lastly, two fun pieces of news.  I’m having a huge closet sale on April 22nd. If you live in or near NYC, come join us !  And most of the items seen in this post are available to rent from my closet at (use code ACCESSORIESGAL).

Accessories Gal Snow Days in Utah

The snow was calling.  A little time in the woods with amazing people, adventure and inspiring conversations was exactly what I needed.  My husband and I recently traveled to Powder Mountain in Utah to spend some time with the Summit Community.  We were honored to be welcomed with open arms for a weekend full of inspiring conversations about global change, worldly adventures and growth.

Surrounded by amazing scenery for 5 days we recharged our batteries, disconnected from our never ending emails and immersed ourselves in what makes Summit amazing, the people, the conversations, and oh yeah, the food.  In between inspiring talks (think TED talks), workshops and amazing farm to table meals, we hit the slopes.

Both my husband and I are absolute adventure junkies and Powder Mountain provided endless fluffy powder, wide open trails and some bad ass black diamond runs.  We spent a few days learning the mountain and carving our own path.  We were blessed though on our last day to meet an amazing guy from the Summit community that knew the mountain like the back of his hand.  As we skied up and down the mountain, across traverses, through chairlifts I didn’t know existed, he showed us a side of the mountain we never would have found.  One that was wide open, steep, and full of fresh, un-groomed powder like I’ve never experienced it.  And the best part, after every amazing run, a snow cat would pick us up to take us right back up to the top of the run, and round and round we went, all day long.

To say we had an epic time would be an understatement.  So here’s a little look at the beautiful scenery and my ski outfit day one (yes the hat came off and a helmut went on).  Oh and just a little side note for all those runners out there, the trail running in Utah is epic.  But these New York City lungs were a little unprepared : ).

New Year, New You

The New Year: that time when we decide to start fresh, ditch all of our bad habits, create a new workout regimen, and well, tell ourselves we’re going to get down to business.  Not everyone is a New Year’s resolution maker.  I though, am one of those people.  I find that setting goals for myself helps give me direction and accountability.

This year I made a few goals involving my career, my health (mental and physical) and my home life.  I’ll share a few of them here with you.

Goal 1: Sign up for a 1/2 marathon (I haven’t run one since my back injury last year).

Goal 2: Find the workouts that I love doing that will continue to push me to get my sweat on.

Goal 3: Find time in the morning to sit peacefully and enjoy the view in my new home.

Goal 4: Cook two recipes a month with my husband out of our Bon Appetit Magazine.

I’m sure many of you have goals that are fitness related.  I love to workout, so getting my butt to the gym or a class has never been the problem.  But sometimes the workouts get stale and you need to find something new and fun. Since moving, I’ve been encouraged to shake things up and try some fun new workouts.  My early favorites are Brooklyn Body Burn, Xtend Barre and Brooklyn Total fitness.

Even with all of the great new workouts in my neighborhood, one of my all-time favorites and always a kick-ass workout is Body Conceptions.  The classic Body Conceptions classes are part cardio dance, part toning and a whole lot of seat section as they like to call it.  I like to call it “torture,” but I’ll tell you, my ass thanks me later when it looks a whole lot tighter 🙂  Last November I participated in the BoCo 5-week challenge and lost a total of 15″ (the sum of circumferences around your arms, thighs, waist, etc.).  It’s a great way to get in gear and feel inspired by other women doing the same thing.  From February 5th – March 19th they’ll be hosting another challenge.  It starts this week so there’s still time to join.

What are your goals or resolutions this year?  I would love to hear from you all what you’re striving for in 2017.

Fall Uniform

The moment fall arrives I go straight for my favorite turtleneck sweaters, moto jackets and easy denim.  This season I’ve added a few additions to my fall uniform that I’m really excited about.  Building a fall/winter wardrobe that offers you lots of mixing and matching is important.  You want items you can layer together, play with and have lots of versatility.  This season I’ve added a few essentials to my arsenal including a new leather jacket, oversized bag accessory and a super comfy, high fashion flat shoe that you can wear all day long.  Key items every well dressed woman should have in her fall wardrobe are:

  • _mg_2577On this glorious fall weekend in upstate New York I did a little antique shopping and decor inspiration hunting with a group of friends.  I’m currently on the hunt for an entire apartment’s worth of furniture for our new place.  Needless to say, my Pinterest board is exploading with ideas from My Domaine, my current and daily obsession.  Check back next week for a little sneak peak into the decor trends I’m loving._mg_2621 _mg_2612 _mg_2462_mg_2585 _mg_2543 _mg_2501 _mg_2492_mg_2475Fall Uniform // Jacket: Zara // Sweater: Zara (similar here) //  Jeans: Current/Elliott (similar here) //Shoes: Gucci // Bracelet: E.Kammeyer Accessories,  Cartier Love Bracelet // Earrings: Pamela Love // Purse: Armani (similar here) // Tassel: Anya Hindmarch // Sunglasses: Dior

Change Is In The Air

Change Is In The Air

Change is in the air, my friends.  Yes, partially because it’s fall, but for me, the last two months have turned my life upside down in the best way possible.  Now, this will also explain why I’ve been MIA, on all fronts.  Instagram, Accessories Gal, Snapchat, you name it, has taken a back seat to the momentous change in my life.  Change that made NYFW a little tricky for me, but none the less, I was able to shoot one fab look, shown here.  What’s happened you ask?  Well, my husband and I finally closed on our first apartment in NYC.  We’ve crossed the river and moved to, dare I say it, Brooklyn!    We are so thrilled to finally own our first home.  We now reside in Downtown Brooklyn, and own a little piece of heaven way up in the sky.

If the apartment weren’t enough change, I added another layer of excitement.  I recently took a new job as Director of Technical Design for an amazing fashion startup called Universal Standard.  I am so passionate about this amazing brand founded by two bad ass women.  The clothing is chic, minimalist and seasonless.  Selling only online, they are changing the way we see fashion in a big way.   Now don’t worry, E.kammeyer Accessories isn’t going anywhere.  I’ve been on the hunt for a long time for something that would creatively challenge me, push me to be better, and grow me as a designer and technical designer.  I’m excited to say, I think I’ve found that job.

Learning to balance this new life is taking some time though.  And I’ll be the first to say that balance hasn’t always been my strong point.  Finding my new sweet spot with work, social life, the blog and fitness has been a bit tough.

So to help me find a bit of perspective, get my butt back in running shape and carve out some me time, I am doing a little 6 week challenge with one of my favorite workouts, Body Conceptions.  I did their 4 week summer challenge and looooved it.  So I thought, what better way to integrate fitness time into my day to day.  Carving out time to workout every day can be difficult.  It’s important to find a workout that you enjoy.  Also, I find planning out your week, and when you’ll workout is important for me.  If I know at the start of the week where and when I’m working out each day, it takes that barrier out.  For me, Body Conceptions has been an amazing workout because it’s fast paced, dance inspired and has great music.  Also, last challenge I saw a huge change in my back side that I wasn’t mad about!

Change Is In The Air

With all of these new adventures I’ve gotten a bit behind on all of the fashionable updates on Accessories Gal.  But, better late than never, here is my favorite looks from fashion week.  If you were around this season, you know that Saturday was hot hot hot.  So I opted to wear as little clothing as possible.  Answer to this dilema, my favorite Miu Miu backless smock top.  It’s part art smock, part canvas trench coat.  Pair it with my favorite jeans from Seafarer, and my go to Fendi Monster mini purse (tied and turned into a fanny pack of sorts).

Change can be a hard pill to swallow for some.  I’m usually one of those people.  This time though, it’s been different.  Finding ways to embrace change is so important.  I’ve found taking a moment outdoors everyday to state my intention for the day helps me get started on the right foot.  It gives me drive to conquer the day.

So I leave you with this, take a moment each day to state your intention, and ask yourself, what do you want to change in your life?

The Perfect Little Black Dress

the perfect little black dress

The perfect little black dress is a closet staple.  That dress that you pull out of your closet and makes you look like a million bucks is well worth an investment.  A properly fitting dress sounds easier said than done though.  Especially for this six foot tall girl.

Picking the right little black dress :

  • Interest/detail: pick a little black dress that has something fun going on.  A great fabric, interesting details, something that stands out.
  • Fit: Make sure the dress fits perfectly.  If it doesn’t, have it altered.  This is going to be a closet staple and something you will own for some time.  The waist placement should be at your natural waistline.  If there are straps, they should be the proper length.  Body length should be altered if necessary.
  • Quality: Choose a dress that is well made and isn’t going to fall apart in a season.  Skip the fast fashion and go for something worth the investment.

I found this amazing Cushnie Et Ochs dress thanks to Rent The Runway.  I was so absolutely in love with it that I purchased it from TheOutnet.  The eyelet fabric, the fitted bodice, and plunging neckline checked all the right boxes.

Fairytale Style Fairytale style- Suzanne Ceremony

The morning light on the New York Public Library steps is a thing of fairytale style beauty.  It’s one of those amazing New York City monuments that makes you feel like you’re in a movie.

I love New York and the hustle.  It’s a city the encourages you to push harder, work harder, run faster and go bigger.  It’s a city of dreams, creativity and fast-paced everything.  I often fall right in step with the city and am at a dead sprint most of the time.  It takes effort to slow down.  This holiday weekend was perfect for a little city staycation and time to pump the breaks. Fairytale style- Suzanne Ceremony

With the gorgeous September light and beautiful quite city, my friend Shane Lavancher and I shot a very special post.  As some of you may know, I was married in France last year.  It’s a place that holds a very special place in my heart.

When the beautiful site Suzanne Ceremony, which focuses on hair accessories hand crafted in France sent me this amazing crown from Paname, I knew it was going to make me feel a bit nostalgic and very fairytale-esque.  The outfit I created around this beautiful piece was to be inspired by my memories in France last year.  The white etherial skirt that catches the wind paired with a slightly edgy, origami-like top, just felt perfect.

The whole thing made me want to be back in France.  So bon jour to this glorious holiday weekend! The Off-The-Shoulder Trend

Off The Shoulder Trend

Oh Summer, where have you gone?  Almost over are the beach weekends, bikinis and rosé weather.  But that can’t stop me from hanging onto my favorite trends this summer, the off-the-shoulder neckline.

I spent the day recently with one of my favorite ladies, Liz Teich of TheBrooklynStylist,  doing a Snapchat takeover for Rent The Runway.  We had a blast cruising all over the city and hitting up a few of our favorite spots in my neighborhood.  Where did we go you ask?

ELK coffee shop– Super cute spot in the West Village for a great latte and some cute pooch watching.

– The Washington Mews- This lovely little spot holds a special place in my heart.  My husband grew up in one of the row houses right in front of the mews.  It’s like a little slice of heaven in the city…and makes for great photos as you can see here.

The Whitney– The new Whitney Museum is turning heads.  With its grand outdoor spaces and fabulous new exhibits, The Whitney is worth a visit if you’re in the Meatpacking District.

The Wild Son– If you’re in Meatpacking, you MUST go to The Wild Son.  Focusing on lunch and brunch, The Wild Son is nailing it when it comes to delicious healthy food.  My favorites and must haves are the grain and egg bowl, buckwheat gluten-free pancakes with turmeric butter, and dark lemon soda.
